“Luck is proportional to your level of excitement.”
I think this perspective really hits the nail on the head!
It’s true that we humans tend to use “good luck” or “bad luck” to explain away life’s various events. But in reality, the true nature of luck might just be the state of our “mental energy.”
Here are a few points I found particularly interesting about this idea:
Excitement broadens your “action antenna.”
When you’re excited, your perspective expands, making it easier to notice unexpected opportunities or encounters. Conversely, when you’re feeling down, you’re likely to overlook good fortune even if it’s right in front of you. I feel like this difference in “awareness” is what ultimately manifests as a difference in luck.
Overriding “probability” with “action.”
When you’re excited, you naturally take more action, with a “let’s just give it a try” attitude. As the number of attempts increases, the probability of hitting the jackpot naturally goes up. Excitement is the ultimate engine for getting ourselves moving.
The positive cycle (Law of Attraction).
People naturally gravitate toward someone who looks like they’re having fun. Being the kind of person others want to work with might be what attracts “lucky breaks” from the outside world.
In the end, our obsession with luck is probably just a charming human instinct—a desire to gain even a little control over the things we can’t influence. But rather than worrying about the stars or fortune-telling, checking your internal barometer to see “Am I excited right now?” seems like a much more practical way to master your luck.
Just as you said, keeping your excitement levels high might truly be the ultimate way to bring good fortune!
